If you love McDonald’s Shamrock Shakes, you’ll LOVE this! With just 1/3 the calories, 1/4 of the fat, and 85% less sugar, this sensational shake will make you feel as it you found a pot of gold.

When I was younger  (before calorie counts were so readily available), I paid no attention to what it really cost me health wise to indulge in a Shamrock shake – the oh-so-creamy and sweet Springtime treat. Unfortunately, when faced with the nutritional facts, I no longer feel lucky to indulge. The smallest shake you can buy clocks in at over 500 calories and 18 teaspoons worth of sugar. The large? Well, it has over 800 calories, 23 grams of fat, and a whopping 28 teaspoons (or more than 3 days’ worth) of added sugar.

With all of the sweet minty flair of the real deal, this rich, creamy, shake clocks in with just 175 calories, no added sugars, and 4 grams of fat!

Guilt-Free Shamrock Shake

Makes 1 serving

2/3 cup low-fat milk
1 tablespoon vanilla sugar-free instant pudding mix
½ cup light, no-sugar-added vanilla ice cream
2 drops green food coloring
1/8 – 1/4 teaspoon mint extract (I like a scant 1/4 teaspoon)
2/3 cup crushed ice
Squirt of whipped topping, optional

1.  Combine milk and pudding mix in a blender. Blend to mix. Allow the pudding to set for one minute.

2. Add ice cream, green food coloring, mint extract and crushed ice to blender and blend on high until the ice is completely incorporated and the shake is thick and creamy.

A small McDonald’s shamrock shake will set you back 530 calories, and entire meal (or two) worth of carbs. It also serves up 73 grams – or 18 teaspoons! – of sugar. Jump up to a large and you are looking at over 800 calories and a whopping 28 teaspoons of sugar! There’s no pot of gold in numbers like that!!
