Pizza Pasta Pie!

Looking for an easy dish that is sure to satisfy everyone? You can’t go wrong with something called Pizza, Pasta, Pie!

A snap to make, this hearty deep-dish pie uses spaghetti to form the “crust” which is then layered with three cheeses, and meat sauce, before being crowned with more melty cheese!

And unlike with a regular piece of meat-topped pizza (that clock’s in with even more calories and double the fat), a single “slice” of this pie is so very satisfying. Add a green salad and you’re all set.

Makes 6 hearty servings

Ingredients

6 ounces spaghetti
1 large egg, lightly beaten
¼ cup + 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese, divided
½ pound lean ground beef
1 ½ cups marinara sauce
1 teaspoon dried oregano, divided
¾ cup shredded part skim Mozzarella cheese
1 cup non-fat or part skim ricotta cheese
½ cup low-fat cottage cheese
1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Lightly spray a 9” deep dish or 10” regular pie plate with cooking spray.

2. Cook the spaghetti according to the package directions, drain, rinse, and shake well to remove excess water.  Place in a large bowl and toss with the egg and ¼ cup of the Parmesan cheese. Press the spaghetti on the bottom and up the sides of the prepared pie plate and set aside.

3. Spray a medium nonstick skillet and place over medium-high heat.  Add the beef and cook for 5 to 7 minutes or until the beef is browned. Add ½ teaspoon of the oregano and the spaghetti sauce to the meat and cook for 2 minutes to let flavors combine.

4. In a small bowl, mix together the ricotta, cottage cheese, remaining oregano and black pepper.  Spread the ricotta mixture over the spaghetti crust and spread evenly.  Spoon the meat sauce on the ricotta mixture. Sprinkle with the mozzarella and remaining Parmesan cheese.

5. Bake for 30 minutes or fully until heated through. Remove from oven and let stand 10 minutes before cutting into wedges to serve.
